I have seen some life expectancy data by census tract, some of which is surprising. I’d love to map the fast food restaurants by census tract and see if there is any correlation with life expectancy! Anyone else interested?

Diseases Spread by Humans, Animals and Insects 6 years, 5 months agoDuring the week ending November 10th, flu activity across the State slightly increased. Now is a great time to get your Flu Shot. Ask your provider for a flu shot. Many of the pharmacies in Allegany County provide the flu vaccine as well.

Lyme Disease is caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, a bacterium and transmitted by the bite of an infected black-legged tick (Ixodes scapularis) or deer tick, which must be attached to the skin for at least 24 hours for transmission to occur.
Not every tick bite causes Lyme disease.

STD’s and STI’s: What’s going on down there? 6 years, 5 months agoI noticed in your uploaded files that we are seeing increases in cases of chlamydia and gonorrhea in Allegany County. Have you noticed any increase in the number of people seeking to be tested? In your experience, what % of people seeking to be tested are having symptoms of disease, and what % is not having any symptoms at all, but are just concerned?

Great questions! I do not believe there has been an increase in any specific population seeking testing. In my experience, about half of the individuals that present to clinic for a routine screening and test positive for chlamydia and/or gonorrhea are not having symptoms.

We have about 425 food facilities that are under license. Some are inspected 3 times per year, some 2 times per year, and low priority facilities are inspected every other year.

about 929 inspections were conducted last year.
