STD’s and STI’s: What’s going on down there? 6 years, 3 months ago
I noticed in your uploaded files that we are seeing increases in cases of chlamydia and gonorrhea in Allegany County. Have you noticed any increase in the number of people seeking to be tested? In your experience, what % of people seeking to be tested are having symptoms of disease, and what % is not having any symptoms at all, but are just concerned?

Diseases Spread by Humans, Animals and Insects 6 years, 3 months ago
There was a story in the news about a British citizen who just died from rabies. He was on vacation in Morocco and was nipped by a cat. He sought medical care but was not given the vaccine needed to prevent rabies. He died on November 4. It is very rare but still so prevalent in other countries. Please seek treatment if you are bitten, licked or…[Read more]

So sad. If your international travel takes you to the developing world outside the US, and if you’re planning to interact with animals, you really should consider getting the rabies vaccine beforehand. Otherwise, be sure to get a travel insurance policy that covers evacuation and medical treatments. These policies will allow you the opportunity to…[Read more]

A family member went camping in August and a couple days after the trip noticed something on her stomach. She thought it was a bug bite and just ignored it but noticed a rash. It wasnt a bull eye rash but she went to have it checked out. The doctor didnt want to do anything! She was insistent and the doctor put her on antibiotics. Remember to…[Read more]

Some not so new diseases spread by animals and insects are lymes disease, rabies, zika, rocky mountain spotted fever and west nile virus just to name a few . Has anyone been diagnosed with lymes disease or rocky mountain spotted fever? It would help this group to know what symptoms you experienced. What treatment did you receive and do you have…[Read more]

With climate change, we are seeing more cases of certain diseases that we didn’t see before, the insects are able to survive and transmit.
Lyme disease is a great example of this. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is also tick-borne but in contrast to Lyme that sometimes has a chronic presentation, RMSF is an acute illness with obvious symptoms, high…[Read more]

Hi everyone, This is a great group to start. As we head into the winter months the reports of rabies usually decreases since animals are less active. Allegany County has had a very great year with no reported positive rabies encounters! However, please remember that indoor animals do have the chance to be exposed to rabies through bats getting to…[Read more]

Great questions! I do not believe there has been an increase in any specific population seeking testing. In my experience, about half of the individuals that present to clinic for a routine screening and test positive for chlamydia and/or gonorrhea are not having symptoms.
