Wednesday, October 10 is Walk Maryland Day. There are numerous health benefits to walking… it not only strengthens muscles and improves cardiovascular health, it is also good for mental health, as well. Why not make a commitment to get in a short walk each day? Even ten or fifteen minutes makes a difference. Can’t go outside? Walk around…[Read more]

I like this file, lots of helpful info.
-
I just reviewed all the documents and found them useful. Now I have a question. What makes pregnant women at higher risk for STD/STI?
-
The pregnant woman who has an untreated STI/STD is placing her fetus at risk. Many of these germs can pass to the baby and cause harm to the baby, and therefore pregnancy is a higher risk category. I do not know of other rationales, maybe we will hear from someone else.

That makes sense, thanks.

I couldn’t help but take note of this article reporting that Australia envisions virtual elimination of cervical cancer within 20 years!
They are using a 2-pronged approach, with screening being one. The second part is prevention through use of the cervical cancer vaccine.HPV vaccination is through a publicly funded school immunization program…[Read more]

Wow, that is amazing. I just heard a local gynecologist speak last week, and he says he rarely sees cervical cancer anymore, and when he does, it is usually in women who have put off having pap tests for a long time. Just shows that preventative screenings are working, and the HPV vaccine is just one more tool in the toolshed!!
Thanks for sharing.

I was thinking it might be good to clarify the distinction between an STD (D for disease) and and STI (I for infection).
A disease is associated with signs or symptoms (in the case of sexually transmitted diseases this can include a discharge, pain with urination, pelvic and abdominal pain, sores, etc).
The fact is, it is possible (and common) to…[Read more] -
