Health Improvement Strategy
Cancer Screenings Save Lives
https://alleganyspeaks.com/groups/cancer-screenings-save-lives/
Goal:
Decrease cancer incidence and mortality in Allegany County through regular cancer screenings
Strategy Description:
Many cancers (such as colorectal cancer) may be prevented with regular screening tests. Other cancers (such as breast cancer) are treatable and have a high survival rate when found and treated early. It is imperative for persons to be screened on a regular basis. We would like to increase screening rates for all targeted cancers (breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, and skin cancers) by working with local healthcare providers, community agencies and businesses to raise awareness of who should be screened, when to be screened, and how often to be screened, and to provide payment for the screenings to those with limited incomes who decide they are not having the screening because they cannot afford it. We can also provide education to those who have insurance, but are not aware that their insurance may fully cover the cost of the cancer screening.
