I couldn’t help but take note of this article reporting that Australia envisions virtual elimination of cervical cancer within 20 years!
They are using a 2-pronged approach, with screening being one. The second part is prevention through use of the cervical cancer vaccine.HPV vaccination is through a publicly funded school immunization program in that country. Current rates of HPV vaccination are at 79% of girls and 73% for boys.
Hooray for Australia, what a great public health initiative! Let’s hope we can have the same vision in the USA.Read more here: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/oct/03/australia-on-track-to-wipe-out-cervical-cancer-within-20-years

Wow, that is amazing. I just heard a local gynecologist speak last week, and he says he rarely sees cervical cancer anymore, and when he does, it is usually in women who have put off having pap tests for a long time. Just shows that preventative screenings are working, and the HPV vaccine is just one more tool in the toolshed!!
